Les Miles no longer eligible for College Football Hall of Fame amid LSU investigation
Les Miles is no longer eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame.
The former national championship-winning head football coach at LSU was a casualty of the NCAA infractions decision handed down to the Tigers’ athletic department on Thursday. The Independent Accountability Resolution Process (IARP) released its ruling on LSU’s case on Thursday, ending a years-long investigation into LSU’s football and men’s basketball programs.
In that ruling, 37 football wins were vacated from 2012-15, which brought Miles’ career record down from 145-73 to 108-73.
Those vacated victories dropped his career winning percentage from .665 to .597. To be eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame, a coach must hold a career .600 winning percentage.
According to the College Football Hall of Fame criteria, a coach becomes eligible to be considered for selection 3 years after retirement or at 70 years old, having coached for at least 10 years and 100 games with a .600 winning percentage. The Hall recognizes the coach’s official NCAA record.
The 69-year-old has not coached since 2021, when Kansas parted ways with him amid allegations of sexual misconduct while he was at LSU.
A university-commissioned investigation at LSU that year revealed previously unreported sexual harassment allegations against Miles by a student assistant. In 2013, then-athletic director Joe Alleva recommended that LSU fire Miles, but he was allowed to keep his job. He was eventually dismissed in September 2016 after a 2-2 start.
Miles spent 12 seasons in total with the Tigers, winning the national championship in 2007.
