LSU coach Les Miles on Tuesday again attempted to explain senior right guard Josh Boutte’s vicious late hit in the closing moments of his team’s loss to Wisconsin last Saturday.
The play, which drew the ire of many on social media, earned Boutte a one-game suspension as the Tigers gear up to face Jacksonville State. Per LSU’s depth chart, sophomore guard Maea Teuhema will start in his place against the Gamecocks.
Miles said the offensive lineman instinctively tried to tackle Badgers defensive back D’Cota Dixon, who picked off an errant Brandon Harris pass to seal the upset. Miles also said Boutte called Dixon to apologize and explain “what his take on the play was.”

Miles said he almost challenged the Josh Boutte call, but "didn't have the view." Couldn't make the challenge without seeing it.

Les calls it difficult for someone of Boutte's size to get low to make a fundamental tackle. "That's why oline doesn't play defense." #LSU
