Week 12 in college football has been called a lot of things, most notably Cupcake Week.

It’s the time of year for a roundup of blowout games, the week when most top-rated SEC teams have a bye without actually taking the week off. Cupcake Week also sets up the fabled Rivalry Week to close out the regular season in Week 13.

On his show Always College Football, Greg McElroy said Cupcake Week is a misnomer, that it should be called Lettuce Week instead. Why Lettuce Week? The analyst explained:

“I don’t call it Cupcake Week, because Cupcake Week is something I love. Like, who doesn’t love a cupcake? I call it Lettuce Week because you don’t want it there, it doesn’t make the sandwich better, and it also really doesn’t add any value whatsoever to your regular season schedule.”

We’ll see how things shake out for the SEC teams during whatever food Week 13 turns out to be.
