Liberty lost successful head coach Hugh Freeze to Auburn during this coaching carousel season, but the Flames are already making moves to replace him.

On Sunday, Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reported that the Flames were nearing a deal with a new head coach.

Per Dellenger, that coach is Coastal Carolina’s Jamey Chadwell, who has become a hot name in recent years. The report has Chadwell’s deal at 5 years in length and paying him $4 million per season:

That would be a strong hire for Liberty, as Chadwell’s offensive system has drawn praise over the years. It’s also a hefty price tag for an independent school to pay.

Liberty will be joining Conference USA in 2023, though, so we’ll see how Chadwell fares at his new program.
