As expected, the nation’s top inside linebacker is staying close to home and following in his father’s footsteps.

Linebacker Ben Davis (Gordo, Ala.) committed to Alabama over Notre Dame, Auburn, Georgia and others during a live announcement on ESPNU on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Davis is an outstanding scheme fit for the Crimson Tide, which has had similar linebackers in Reggie Ragland and C.J. Mosley star on the field for them in recent seasons.

Davis’ father Wayne is Alabama’s all-time leading tackler.

The Tide could add another big piece to its linebacking corps later today when another in-state star, Lyndell Mack Wilson of Montgomery, makes his decision at 2 p.m. ET.

Ben Davis is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker prospect in the 2016 recruiting cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.
