With Kevin Steele heading to Auburn, LSU again finds itself in need of a defensive coordinator.

According to Nola.com, the Tigers have a number of coaches they’re considering for the job.

In addition to coaches already on the LSU staff such as Ed Orgeron and Corey Raymond, the potential candidates include Bo Pelini, Clancy Pendergast, Brent Venables and Dave Aranda.

Pelini is currently the head coach at Youngstown State, but he has a history with Tigers head coach Les Miles: he was Miles’ first defensive coordinator at LSU.

Pendergast is currently a linebackers coach for the San Francisco 49ers, and not only did he coach with Ed Orgeron at USC, but he has also been through this process with LSU before. He was a candidate for the position when former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis left for Texas A&M.

Venables is serving as the defensive coordinator for Clemson right now, and he was also a candidate for the position when Chavis left for College Station.

Aranda is Wisconsin’s defensive coordinator, and he has few ties to LSU, but he is probably the most eager of the candidates.
