LISTEN: Chad Morris breaks down Arkansas’ defensive coordinator search with Bo Mattingly

Chad Morris joined Fayetteville’s Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly on Monday to discuss his process in hiring a defensive coordinator.
Mattingly asked the Razorbacks’ head coach about his intention to “hire the best DC in college football.”
“You always have a list of people,” Morris said. “Usually it’s a short list with two, three or four names — guys you’ve been around, guys you’ve coached against that are well-respected in this profession … It is an absolute commitment.”
Morris is clearly hoping to maintain a certain standard of excellence in Fayetteville.
“I’m going to have the best wide receiver coach in the country standing on the field here, or he won’t coach long,” Morris continued. “I’m going to have the best offensive coordinator on the field or he won’t be here long. That’s what we do. Our standard is best.
“We’ve got some names in mind (for DC), but obviously can’t share that right now. Some will be coaching in bowl games, so I want to give them their due respect. But we look forward very shortly to finishing out our staff.”
Mattingly asked if Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis was in the mix for the defensive coordinator job. “Chief” Chavis previously served as the DC at Tennessee and LSU, as well. He’s quite familiar with the SEC.
“Well, Bo, again, I don’t want to get anybody in any situation at all that would hinder their preparation, so I’d rather not say,” Morris noted.
It will be interesting to see who ends up running the Hogs’ defense.
