The Arkansas Razorbacks have found their defensive coordinator in longtime SEC assistant John Chavis.
However, after Chavis’s Texas A&M defense gave up 55 points in a Belk Bowl loss to Wake Forest, many Razorback fans have soured on the hire.
On Tuesday, though, ESPN host Rece Davis joined “Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly” to discuss Chad Morris’s decision to bring Chavis to Fayetteville, saying he thinks it could be the right decision:

“I think it is fair to say that the productivity of his recent teams hasn’t met the talent,” he said. “I think that’s very fair. He certainly has a lengthy track record and is highly respected within the sport. If you can get a guy like that and give him an opportunity to match a defense… an important thing, Bo, is for your defense to complement your offense and vice versa. If you have an offense that needs to take time off the clock, then it might not be a good fit, but I’m sure he and Chad have talked that out.”
The Razorbacks’ defense wasn’t exactly a good one in 2017, so Chavis will have his work cut out for him next year.
