The Lone Star Showdown rivalry series returns this season for fans of Texas and Texas A&M. That includes the first football matchup between the in-state rivals since 2011 with the Longhorns officially joining the Aggies in the SEC.

With the 2 programs finally reuniting as conference rivals, the annual rivalry series will also have a title sponsor. The 2 schools announced on Friday that Cotton Holdings will title sponsor every head-to-head contest between the two rivals in Austin and College Station.

Cotton Holdings will also sponsor the year-long scoring system that is made up of the results from the 19 sports to determine the winner of the annual Lone Star Showdown rivalry series trophy. Those sports with no head-to-head competitions will be determined by which team finishes higher in the final standings for the SEC Championship.

Cotton Holdings revealed the announcement in a video on social media:

“Growing up in Texas, the rivalry between The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University was legendary. Since founding Cotton, it has been a dream of mine to see our brand represent this series,” said Pete Bell, Founder & CEO of Cotton Holdings. “We are proud to support these two great universities, and are extremely honored to serve as the title sponsor for the Lone Star Showdown and the return of their historic rivalry.”

While the rivalry holds a special place in all sports, a lot of attention will be on the renewal of the football rivalry on Nov. 30. The Longhorns and Aggies have 118 meetings on the gridiron with Texas leading the all-time series 76-37-5. Texas won the most recent matchup, a 27-25 victory in College Station back in 2011.
