Outside of a quarterback battle, one of the biggest and saddest talking points of LSU’s offseason was the passing of the legendary Billy Cannon. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1959 and had a memorable run on Halloween night that same year.

LSU plans to honor the school legend as the Tigers will be taking the field against Miami in the only nationally televised football game on Sunday night.

Cannon’s No. 20 will take the field again for the Tiger’s Sunday night against the Hurricanes in the form of a helmet sticker.

He also helped LSU to win the national championship in 1958, but his life after football became complicated and he served time in federal prison for making counterfeit money in the 1980s.

History still looks back upon him fondly though. Cannon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008 and his No. 20 is among the Tigers’ retired numbers. His famous Halloween run was also included in a video LSU released Sunday morning celebrating 125 seasons of Tigers’ football.
