LOOK: South Carolina replaces grass in football stadium following Jay-Z, Beyonce show
Will Muschamp and South Carolina open the season in Williams-Brice Stadium next Saturday against Coastal Carolina, and they will be doing so on a brand new field.
Jay-Z and Beyonce performed in Williams-Brice on Tuesday night, and are forcing South Carolina to install more than “90,000 square feet of Bermuda grass”, according to the Associate Press.
“We would not have done this if we believed there was a safety issue,” said Clark Cox, South Carolina’s assistant athletic director in charge of turf and lanscaping services to the AP. “My job and our entire ground staff’s job, our No. 1 priority in everything we do, is safety and welfare of our student-athletes.”
South Carolina Executive Associate AD Charles Bloom gave an update of the status of the field on Sunday.

This was preplanned, as the administration knew it would have to make changes to the field after the concert. Will Muschamp and many of his players were reportedly in attendance at the concert as well.
The new field is coming along nicely, as we are less than a week away from kickoff.
After the opener against Coastal Carolina, the Gamecocks host the defending SEC champion and national championship runner-up in Georgia. That week 2 matchup will kick off conference play for both schools, and South Carolina fans are hoping quarterback Jake Bentley looks just as good as the brand new field he will be playing on.
