Melvin Ingram’s future just became much more secure.
The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Sunday that they’ve come to terms with Ingram on a four-year contract, beating the July 15 deadline by over a month. Ingram had been given the franchise tag by the Chargers in order to keep him from hitting free agency while they negotiated this deal.

A former star at South Carolina, Ingram has lived up to his first-round status upon entering the league. In his five seasons with the Chargers, Ingram has recorded 224 tackles, 46 tackles for a loss and 24.5 sacks. Injuries have hampered him in seasons past, but the Chargers are hoping that those days are behind Ingram and that he can form a terrifying duo with Joey Bosa.
