Though legendary coach Lou Holtz might be best known for winning a national championship as the head coach of Notre Dame, he also has some strong SEC ties.

Holtz finished his coaching career with South Carolina, retiring in 2004.

However, before his stints with the Fighting Irish and the Gamecocks, Holtz led the Arkansas Razorbacks from 1977 to 1983.

For his contributions to the Arkansas program, wholehogsports.com reports that he’ll be inducted into the school’s Hall of Honor as part of this year’s eight-member class. Other football players included in the class were Greg Lasker and Danny Rhodes.

His most notable victory with Arkansas may have been the 1978 Orange Bowl, when the Razorbacks defeated Barry Switzer’s Oklahoma team 31-6.

In his seven seasons with the Hogs, Holtz compiled an overall record of 60-21-2. His career win-loss record ended at 249-132-7.

The Hall of Honor induction ceremony will be held the first weekend of September.
