LSU’s 5 impact players (other than Fournette) to watch vs. Alabama

It’s been nearly a decade since LSU has won the national championship.

Saturday night will go a long way in determining whether Les Miles and the Tigers will get another shot this season.

LSU has lost four straight to Alabama since winning their regular season battle in 2011.

To end the streak, the Tigers will need strong performances from these five players not named Leonard Fournette or Brandon Harris:

1. RT Vadal Alexander: Alabama leads the SEC in sacks and had five against Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs. LSU throws less than anyone in the conference, but Harris still needs completions to win this one. Alexander and the rest of the offensive better give him time to do so.

2. RB Derrius Guice: In the four games LSU has scored 44 points or more, third-string running back Guice has rushed for 298 yards on 28 carries with two touchdowns, an average of nearly 11 yards per carry. In LSU’s other three games Guice has just six carries for 18 yards. LSU obviously will lean on Founette, the Tigers need another huge effort from their explosive backup if they want to come out with a win in Tuscaloosa.

3. CB Tre’Davious White: LSU is tied for last in the SEC in turnovers forced. Alabama has committed 14 turnovers already, though five came in its only loss, to Mississippi. This week would be a nice one for White, a potential first-round pick, to get his first interception of the season.

4. WR Malachi Dupre: The receiver has been rolling with 13 catches for 275 yards and four touchdowns in his past three games. His emergence has not only provided another spark to an already potent offense, but has also allowed Harris to become more than just the guy who hands off to Fournette.

After 382 passing yards with just two touchdowns in his first four games, Harris has nearly doubled his passing yards total (716 passing yards) with seven more touchdowns in the three games since.

5. PK Trent Domingue: Domingue is the only SEC starter to have yet to miss a field goal this season. LSU needs that to continue Saturday — unless Miles dials up another trick-play touchdown call.
