LSU is not only an SEC baseball powerhouse, the Tigers are also a national powerhouse, so when they lose in nonconference play, it’s a shocker.
And on Saturday, LSU was stunned, at home no less, by scrappy Omaha, which came into Baton Rouge this weekend and has given the mighty Tigers all kinds of fits. LSU nearly lost to Omaha in Friday night’s series opener before escaping with a 4-2 victory.
But the 5-0 Tigers, who had shown so much dominance in the season’s first 4 games, couldn’t escape defeat on Saturday in a 5-4 loss to Omaha.

LSU had runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth, so the stage was set for the Tigers to supply a little magic on Saturday afternoon and stay undefeated. But a fly out to left-center field was harmless, and Omaha did the celebrating in Baton Rouge on Saturday instead.
LSU was especially dominant in its first 3 games in 2025. The Tigers clobbered Purdue Fort Wayne in a 3-game sweep, outscoring their guests by a combined 32-2. The opening-series onslaught included a season-opening 14-0 victory on Feb. 14 that was followed by 10-1 and 8-1 victories, respectively.
But the party didn’t stop when Purdue Fort Wayne left town. The Tigers hammered Southern in Baton Rouge in a midweek mismatch on Tuesday, winning 13-1 in 7 innings to improve to 4-0.
Then Omaha came into town this weekend and not only slowed that party but ruined it on Saturday with the victory that finally gave LSU its first loss of the season.
