It appears LSU will be down a defensive assistant as spring drills are just around the corner. According to multiple reports, defensive line coach Jamar Cain is headed to the NFL to serve as a pass rush specialist for the Denver Broncos.
Cain joined the LSU staff in 2022, where he helped the Tigers to a 10-4 mark and the SEC West Division title. During his time with the Tigers, LSU’s defensive line produced third-team All-America Mekhi Wingo, and first-team All-SEC selection BJ Ojulari.
Cain will reportedly be part of the Broncos’ new staff under Sean Payton. Before serving as head coach for the Broncos, Payton served in the same capacity for the New Orleans Saints.
Payton appears to be digging deep in Louisiana for talent. On Friday, the Broncos signed former Saints WR Marquez Callaway, reuniting him with Payton.

Cain has been an assistant coach at various positions since 2005 when he began his career at Ohio. The assistant coach made stops at Wyoming, Fresno State, and Arizona State before landing at Oklahoma in 2020.
Cain saw the most success as the outside linebackers and defensive ends coach for the Sooners. During his time in Norman, OU was propelled to the top-25 national rankings in interceptions, opponent 3rd-down conversion percentage, sacks per game, and rushing defense.
