LSU-Miami game in 2018 to be finalized in days (or not)

Miami and LSU will play a neutral-site game in 2018 after all, Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press reported via Twitter on Wednesday.

Or not. LSU senior associate athletic director Verge Ausberry said the Tigers never have discussed a game with Miami, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

This isn’t the first time reports out of Miami and Baton Rouge have been in conflict. When the rumor first surfaced in June, the Miami Herald reported that LSU and Alabama both had approached the Hurricanes about non-conference games in 2017 or 2018, and that Miami was more interested in facing the Tigers.

But Ausberry denied the report in June as well, telling the Times-Picayune “there’s nothing to that.”

LSU does not have any scheduled non-conference games in 2018.

Florida and Miami also have given lip service to renewing their rivalry at some point. As long as the SEC conference schedule remains at eight games, the Gators and Hurricanes could play again at some point, though Gators athletic director Jeremy Foley has insisted any such game must take place at a neutral site for him to even consider it.
