LSU and offensive coordinator Matt Canada have mutually agreed to part ways, according to a Friday night release from the university.

As has been expected for a couple weeks, it appears Canada’s time as the Tigers’ OC is done.

“I want to thank Matt for his contribution here at LSU and wish him and his family the best,” head coach Ed Orgeron  said. “We have mutually agreed to part ways and go in a different direction offensively but are always grateful for the time and effort Matt made here at LSU.”

Coach O saw offensive improvements this season, but they did not measure up to his standards, the release noted.

“As the head coach, you have to make tough decisions,” Orgeron said. “I chose to go in a different direction in order to get where I believe we need to be as a program.”

Ross Dellenger of The Advocate reported that Canada will be paid roughly $1.7 million of the $3.3 million he was still owed, per his contract — “a resolution reached by the two sides Friday night after day-long negotiations Thursday.”
