The NCAA has placed LSU’s football program under probation, following a former assistant coach’s recruiting violations.
LSU’s former offensive line coach James Cregg was fired in June 2021 for violating NCAA rules for recruiting.
The violations mainly surrounded Cregg and/or a recruiting staffer meeting with a recruit during the COVID-19 dead period, and giving him team gear against authorization.
LSU released a statement on the probation and Cregg situation, read it below.

The NCAA has issued a three-year show cause for Cregg with one year of probation for LSU’s football program.
Along with the above statement, LSU also released statement regarding the legalities on the NCAA ruling of Cregg’s involvement. Essentially in that statement LSU athletics honed in on how the situation is not LSU’s fault and how Cregg was fired due to defying instruction during the COVID dead period.
#LSU released a separate statement on its legal battle with James Cregg in reaction to today's NCAA ruling.
