The program released a statement Sunday afternoon.
We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.
Lacy was found dead Saturday night in Houston. WBRZ is reporting, per sources, that the cause of death was suicide. The cause of death has not been confirmed, per reports from ESPN and the Associated Press. Lacy was set to face negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle charges for his alleged involvement in a fatal crash in December.
Lacy declared for the NFL Draft days after the crash. He did not participate in LSU’s Texas Bowl game.
In February, Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, released a lengthy statement saying that Lacy was not at fault, noting that Lacy continued his daily activities, including draft prep, believing he was not at fault. A grand jury was set to take up Lacy’s case on Monday.
Before the incident, Lacy was considered an NFL Draft hopeful. After beginning his career with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in Lafayette, Lacy transferred to LSU ahead of the 2022 season. In 2024, he logged 58 catches for 866 yards and 9 touchdowns over 12 games.
