Defensive line coach John Jancek and outside linebackers coach Bob Diaco were not part of LSU’s announcement. The news that LSU was planning to overhaul its defensive coaching staff was first reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Wednesday morning.
LSU’s struggled throughout the 2023 campaign. The Tigers gave up 6.14 yards per play this season, which ranked 12th in the SEC.
LSU allowed a pass defense efficiency rating of 143.58, which ranked 11th in the SEC. The running game wasn’t any better as the Tigers gave up 4.53 yards per carry, which ranked 12th in the conference.
House began the 2023 season as a potential head coaching candidate for this cycle. Instead, he will likely have to look for new opportunities as an assistant coach. Prior to joining LSU, House was the linebackers coach for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2019-21.
Replacing House and LSU’s other defensive assistants will be a major priority for Kelly as he prepares for his 3rd season as LSU’s head coach in 2024.
