Some refer to LSU as “DBU” because of its rich tradition of churning out defensive backs to the NFL, but the Tigers are well-represented at every position at the next level. In fact, more than any school. Again.

For a second straight season, LSU ranked No. 1 among all schools with players on active NFL rosters as 40 former Tigers were in action during Week 1 in the NFL. A year ago, the NFL season opened with 38 former Tigers on active rosters. Four of the top six schools hailed from the SEC. Alabama and Georgia were next-best with 34 each followed by Florida with 31.

As for the moniker of DBU, LSU led the country in that also with 10 defensive backs on active rosters this season. The Tigers were also first in the NFL in defensive tackles with seven. Of the 40 LSU players who played during the opening weekend of the NFL, more than half (24) were starters, which includes punters Donnie Jones (Eagles) and Brad Wing (Giants).

MOST PLAYERS ON ACTIVE NFL ROSTERS IN WEEK 1

1. LSU — 40
2. Miami (FL) — 37
3. USC — 35
4. Alabama — 34
5. Georgia — 34
6. Florida — 31
7. Florida State — 31
8. Oklahoma — 30
9. Notre Dame — 29
10. Clemson — 28
