LSU shows value of new velocity-based training system

Everyone was in awe of the new locker rooms that LSU unveiled this summer, but there is something way more important going on inside the Tigers’ weight room that is helping Ed Orgeron’s team perform on the field.

Updated technology from Perch, a company for velocity-based training, might give the Tigers an edge over its opponents. With cameras looking down at each station and computer monitors next to where the players do their workout, the Tigers are able to see immediately how they are performing and, based on the numbers, the conditioning staff can know whether to add or take off weight.

“After every rep, they see immediate feedback on the velocity and power output, whatever metric the coach wants the athlete to focus on,” Perch CEO Jacob Rothman said. “They will use that feedback to sort of guide the workout.”
