It’s hard for any team to go into a top-10 team’s home stadium and leave with a win, but No. 6 LSU will head into Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium as the favorite against No. 9 Texas. The Tigers opened as favorites when the initial lines were released and the line has continued to move in LSU’s favor.
This weekend, many books had LSU at -4. According to Sportsline, three Las Vegas sportsbooks (Caesars, Westgate and Wynn) now have the Tigers favored by 6.5 points.
Ed Orgeron’s squad is coming off an impressive showing in Week 1. LSU thumped Georgia Southern 55-3. Tom Herman’s Texas Longhorns also enter Saturday’s game 1-0. UT defeated Louisiana Tech 45-14 at home in Week 1.
ESPN’s Football Power Index, a metric “measure of team strength” gives LSU an 80 percent chance of beating Texas on Saturday. Bill Connelly’s SP+ rankings, known to be better than 50 percent against the spread, rates LSU 16.3 points better than Texas (29.8-13.5) on a neutral field. Home-field advantage will obviously help the Longhorns some, but probably not over 16 points of a boost.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Plenty of fans, and bettors, are sure to be watching.
