LSU sophomore tight end GiVanni Peterson received quite the surprise this week, and he made sure to call home about it.
On the 20th anniversary of Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux, Peterson received a NIL scholarship to recognize the anniversary. Former LSU basketball player Brandon Landry, the restaurant chain founder, presented the award to Peterson.

Landry said it will become an annual scholarship at LSU as the Tigers football players erupted in applause at the team’s meeting room. The video of the moment also presented Peterson calling his mother and father about winning the scholarship.
“Doing the little things the right way all the time matters, and so … congratulations,” LSU head coach Brian Kelly said to Peterson.
A Colorado native, Peterson has been with LSU since 2022 and played in three career games thus far. As Peterson talked about in the video, he concerns himself with his role on the team in practices versus how much playing time he receives in games.
“What I do every day is just what my job is,” Peterson said. “I’m there to challenge our guys. I’m there to work hard and keep doing everything.”
“I never thought I was going to be rewarded for my work,” Peterson added. “This is what I love to do. I don’t know if it will really hit me because I need to keep that chip on my shoulder, that grind, that mindset. Because what got me here, is going to take me farther.”
