LSU scored 18 runs in four frames to blow past Southern on Tuesday. The Tigers briefly trailed early before taking complete control with a 5-run 3rd and never looked back.

The star of the show was junior Tre’ Morgan, who hit for the cycle in the win. And he did so in order.

Morgan singled in the 2nd inning — a leadoff base hit to get the bottom of the frame rolling. He then hit a 1-out double to left field in the 3rd inning that scored a pair of Tiger teammates. Morgan then cranked a 3-RBI triple in the 5th inning. He capped the brilliant day off with a 2-out, 3-RBI homer to right field in the 6th inning.

A preseason All-SEC Second Team selection at first base, Morgan finished the day with 8 RBI in 5 plate appearances.

He didn’t have a hit in LSU’s season-opening series win over Western Michigan last weekend, but perhaps he was just saving up the fireworks for Mardis Gras.

According to The Advocate’s Leah Vann, Mikie Mahtook was the last LSU Tiger to hit for the cycle, doing so on April 6, 2010, against Alcorn State.
