Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ co-writer has passed away
On Thursday, it was announced that former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King had passed away at age 68.
King was a member of the band in the 1970’s and 1980’s and was best-known for co-writing “Sweet Home Alabama.” His voice is the one counting off the “one, two, three” before the start of the famous guitar riff at the beginning of the song.
According to the announcement on his Facebook page, he died in his home on Wednesday.
King was known for writing the majority of music in the song that echoes through Bryant-Denny stadium on Saturdays in the fall.
He was a California native and according to the Tennesseean, also a founding member of the rock band Strawberry Alarm Clock, who was known for their 1967 hit “Incense and Peppermints.”
