Malcolm Mitchell was waived by the New England Patriots Monday.
His career in New England will most notably be known for injuries, and he struggled with them all the way back into his Georgia career. The Valdosta native has all the talent in the world, but injuries have unfortunately been the main theme.
During his three-year career with the Patriots, Mitchell played just one season in 2016. He made 32 catches for 401 yards and four TDs. His best game came in the epic Super Bowl comeback over the Atlanta Falcons. In the fourth quarter alone, Mitchell posted five catches for 63 yards.
The Patriots drafted Mitchell in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and on Monday, he reacted on social media following the news that he had been waived. Regardless if Mitchell gets picked up again by another NFL team, his career off-the-field will be just as successful. He’s been very involved in encouraging children to read on his website ReadWithMalcolm.com.
“New England, thank you!,” Mitchell wrote in his Instagram post. “My heart hurts, but I smile when thinking about all the love, support and patience you have given me. To the community this is not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you later. Go Pats!”
