Former Alabama basketball coach Mark Gottfried placed on leave following allegations of rules violations

Former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried finds himself in some hot water at his current school.

Cal State Northridge just announced Gottfried has been placed on paid administrative leave following allegations of potential violations that may have occurred under the coach’s watch.

Here is the statement issued by Cal State Northridge on Thursday:

“Upon learning of potential rules violations within our men’s basketball program, I directed an immediate review and have placed our men’s basketball coaching staff on paid administrative leave while we complete this internal review. Our focus will be on the welfare of our student-athletes and ensuring their academic, athletic and personal success. CSUN does not comment on specific employee issues and cannot elaborate further about the nature of the potential violations while the review is underway. However, CSUN is committed to ensuring full compliance with all university and NCAA regulations while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and institutional responsibility.”

Gottfried recently completed his third season leading the Cal State Northridge basketball program. The team went 9-13 on the court last season, which results in a three-year mark of  37–51 overall leading the program.

Gottfried coached Alabama from 1998 until 2008-09, during which time he led the Crimson Tide to a 210–131 overall record and five NCAA Tournament appearances.
