Mark Ingram likely to become Saints’ all-time leading rusher

Mark Ingram is heading back to New Orleans. And now that he’s returning to the Saints — who reportedly are acquiring him in a trade with the Houston Texans — he has a chance to make history.
After playing at Alabama from 2008-10, Ingram was taken by the Saints in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He went on to play 8 seasons in New Orleans from 2011-18, putting up some strong numbers, especially near the end of that tenure.
Ingram rushed for 6,007 yards over his 106 games with the Saints, which put him second in franchise history. The only New Orleans player with more rushing yards during his time with the team is Deuce McAllister, who had 6,096 rushing yards for the Saints from 2001-08.
With Ingram only 89 yards back, there’s a good chance he could break that record this season. In 7 games with the Texans this year, he rushed for 294 yards and a touchdown. The Saints, who are 4-2, have 11 regular-season games remaining.
Ingram likely won’t be getting as many carries in New Orleans as he was in Houston, as he’ll be behind Alvin Kamara on the depth chart. But the Saints should have a better team around Ingram when he gets into the game, so it could help him be more effective.
