Every former Alabama player has their own favorite Nick Saban story to tell. On Wednesday, former tide running back Mark Ingram recalled a hilarious story from his time playing under Saban.
Ingram explained that his father played at Michigan State when Saban was an assistant coach, and the two would go back and forth all the time. Ingram said Saban had to keep “Big Mark” in line, and often times would call his girlfriend (who is now Ingram’s mother) and ask why he wasn’t in class.
Ingram said that during a recruiting visit, that story came up, but Saban was hesitant to tell it.
“He wants to tell this story, but he doesn’t know that the girlfriend is my mother or not,” Ingram said.
Ingram then explained how Saban correctly predicted how Ingram’s first two years at Alabama would go.
“He was like ‘Your first year if you come, we’ll be a pretty good team,'” Ingram said.
That team ended up going 12-0 and losing to Florida in the SEC Championship.
“He was like ‘Your second year, I think we’ll win the national championship,'” Ingram said.
Saban was right once again, as Alabama went 14-0 and won the national championship in Ingram’s second season.
Ingram asked Saban how he could have predicted the outcomes so well, and his answer is hilarious.
“He was like, ‘Man that was just a recruiting pitch,'” Ingram said.
