Former Georgia head coach Mark Richt will make his coaching return in 2023.

Richt will serve as a head coach in the Polynesian Bowl on Jan. 20, 2023. Richt, 62 years old, has not coached since 2018 when he was last Miami’s head coach.

The game will be broadcast to a national audience on the NFL Network. The game will take place at Kunuiakea Stadium in Honolulu. Richt discussed his excitement for the game in statement (via Online Athens):

“The 2023 Polynesian Bowl is going to be an amazing experience,” Richt said. “I look forward to celebrating culture and coaching the nation’s best players in paradise.”

He will be coaching some of the country’s best high school players in the game.

In 2021, Richt announced his battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Despite health issues, Richt continues to work around college football as an ACC Network analyst.

Richt became one of the best coaches in college football during his 15-season stint at Georgia from 2001 to 2015. He left Georgia for Miami in 2016 and coached the Hurricanes for three seasons.

After more than four years away from coaching, Richt will lead Team Makai in the Polynesian Bowl. He will be going up against former NFL head coach Romeo Crennel, who will be the head coach for Team Mauka.
