Mark Stoops was very complimentary of Clemson at Thursday’s Gator Bowl presser.

Stoops said that Clemson looked like an SEC team. However, he didn’t want to make any official comments on his stance regarding the Tigers joining the SEC any time soon.

“I don’t want to be reckless,” said Stoops, half joking. “As soon as I say something, that’ll be national news.”

The Kentucky head coach made headlines when he was reportedly being considered as a candidate for the Texas A&M opening. However, Stoops ended up staying with Kentucky and the Aggies hired former Duke HC Mike Elko.

Stoops gained attention again this season after stating that Kentucky needs more NIL money to compete with other teams in the SEC. It’s safe to say he wants away from the national spotlight for a while.

The Wildcats and Tigers will close each their seasons in Jacksonville, Florida. Stoops can secure the 2nd 8-win season of his tenure at Kentucky with a win in the Gator Bowl.

Kickoff will be Friday at noon ET on ESPN/ESPN+.
