Mark Stoops declines to comment on targeting calls: ‘I don’t want to part with $50,000’

One of the main plotlines out of the wild Florida victory over Kentucky on Saturday night was two targeting calls that went against the Wildcats. Defensive back Yusuf Corker got flagged and ejected in the first quarter while T.J. Carter received the same in the fourth, helping lead to the Gators’ winning touchdown.
Despite knocking Feleipe Franks out of the game and holding a double-digit lead late in the game, Kentucky lost to Florida 29-21 Saturday night.
When asked to comment on the calls, Mark Stoops refused to take the bait.
“No. I don’t want to part with 50,000,” the Kentucky coach said on Monday.
Smart man.
While Stoops didn’t want to call out the officials on Monday during his press conference, he didn’t hold back in his post-game media session on Saturday night.
“You know, I said it last week, and you know, I’ll say it again, it’s very difficult,” he said. “I’m not saying at all that the officials made a wrong call. It’s just a tough call. It’s a tough call. You’ve got a chance to win a game, you know, with … third and super long. You get a targeting. Something’s gotta be done with that rule and the call, and you know, putting laundry on the field there to dictate a game again is tough.”
Maybe Stoops and South Carolina coach Will Muschamp can get together soon and release their frustrations together.
