Mark Stoops is still celebrating passing Bear Bryant on Kentucky’s all-time wins list, and the Kentucky coach took some time this week to reflect on last week’s Florida win.
The defense stood out to him for a couple of reasons.
“It was really a great effort,” Stoops said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “I was very pleased with their preparation and the way they played all week in practice. JJ I thought was outstanding. Jordan Wright, getting him back … he’s kind of our energy guy. … Players really just did an outstanding job and played extremely tough in a hostile environment.”
This week will be a family reunion of sorts when the Cats play Youngstown State, and Stoops will welcome several members of his family to the game.
“Obviously it was really big to accomplish that feat in such a big game, especially against Florida. We all know when I arrived, to our fan base, it had been a long time. The family is coming this weekend. … The plan all along was to come in this week against Youngstown State,” Stoops said. “… We’ll be able to spend some time with my mother, Bob … everybody’s coming.”
