Mark Stoops’ Kentucky Wildcats gave the Georgia Bulldogs a run for their money on Saturday night in Lexington, losing a close one, 13-12.

The Bulldogs were favored to defeat the Wildcats by at least three scores, but instead, it was Kentucky that led 6-3 at halftime. Head coach Mark Stoops explained why he thought Georgia was ultimately the team that came out on top of a game that came down to the wire.

“You know, they are very efficient — there are things you can’t do to them,” Stoops said in his postgame press conference. “They pick everything up. They are very efficient, as I said earlier in the week, I think they have a very cohesive offensive line and it’s a very good group.”

In game where both teams had issues generating any type of explosiveness on offense, a 33-yard pass from quarterback Carson Beck to wide receiver Dominic Lovett made all the difference in the Bulldogs being able to run down to clock to escape with the win.

“What I don’t like is one play during that four-minute drive where they had the sail (route),” Stoops said. “We have to man that up and not give them that sail route that was completed on their sidelines and that’s the one play that will haunt me right here tonight and for a long time.”

While many will praise Kentucky for the way it was able to rebound and nearly beat the best team in the nation after suffering a 25-point home loss, Stoops doesn’t take time for moral victories.

“I think you know I’m not saying I’m pleased with the moral victory,” Stoops said. “We played hard. I thought we had opportunities to win the game.”
