After suffering a medical episode that hospitalized him last Sunday, Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen has made a recovery.

Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops gave an update on Coen’s status during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday, stating that Coen will be coaching in his normal capacity on Saturday as the Wildcats take on Akron.

Stoops didn’t go into detail about what happened to Coen, but he said the medical staff was able to assist Coen immediately, which made things much better.

“Liam will be back in his normal capacity, which we’re just very grateful,” Stoops said. “I will refrain from saying too much, I’m sure Liam will tell the story as he wishes. We just want to respect him in that way, but yes, most definitely a scary situation any time you see any of our people you work with or anybody you’re close to going through any type of medical situation, it’s challenging. Fortunately, things happened while we were in work hours and a lot of people were around and our trainer and doctors were here on Sunday morning checking out our players as we were up watching the film. So that’s about all I really want to say about it.”

Coen took to social media Tuesday to express his gratitude to Kentucky’s Chandler Hospital as well as those who reached out to support and pray for him after the episode.

Kentucky is looking to make it a 3-0 start on Saturday before getting into SEC play the following week against Vanderbilt.

The Wildcats and Zips will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
