Kentucky and Clemson are getting set to face off in this year’s Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mark Stoops held his weekly press conference on Monday. When asked if the Wildcats’ younger players are looking to go out and prove something, Stoops noted he hopes the whole team has that mentality.

“Our whole team better take that approach,” Stoops said. “That’s a big thing with bowl games…who’s excited about the work it takes prior to showing up down there at the site.”

Kentucky has an all-time record of 8-5 against Clemson. The teams previously met in the Music City Bowl in 2009. It resulted in the Wildcats coming out victorious over the Tigers.

“Everybody wants to win come game time,” Stoops said. “It’s about what we’re going to do now and then to put ourselves in a position to win.”

The Wildcats started their 2023 campaign with a 5-0 record, but went 2-5 down the stretch to finish the regular season at 7-5.

The No. 22 Tigers capped their regular season with an 8-4 mark. After a 4-4 start to its campaign, Clemson won four-straight games.

Kickoff between Kentucky and Clemson at the Gator Bowl is set for Dec. 29 at noon on ESPN.
