Mark Stoops speaks on decision not to settle for a field goal ahead of halftime vs. Ohio

Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats hold a dominant 17-0 lead over the Ohio Bobcats at halftime, and there’s no question the momentum is fully in their favor.
But what there is a question about is the decision to not take the field goal opportunity and to instead greedily try to gain some extra yardage. That risk did not yield a reward, and time expired before the team had a chance to get any points at all.
Stoops walked into the locker room at halftime with regret, saying that he wanted to kick the field goal but that everyone else was telling him to go for it.
“I wanted to kick the field goal on third down and everyone told me to go for it and I should have gone with my gut,” Stoops said. “That’s on me.”

It’s been a solid game for Kentucky in other regards, though, as quarterback Brock Vandagriff has looked as in control comfortable as he ever has in the offense. He is currently 10-for-13 passing for 164 yards.
Running back Demie Sumo-Karngbaye has also been a force, responsible for both of Kentucky’s touchdowns to this point. The Wildcats are bouncing back after a narrow home loss to then-No. 1 Georgia last weekend.
