Auburn University quarterback Nick Marshall will not start the Tigers season-opener against Arkansas, this according to Gus Malzahn.

Marshall was issued a citation for possession of a small amount of marijuana during a traffic stop on July 11. Malzahn made the announcement after Auburn’s first fall practice on Friday, and Marshall did practice.

When asked how long Marshall would sit against the Razorbacks on Aug. 30, Malzahn didn’t have an answer.

“I’m not ready to say that yet,” Malzahn said.

Marshall started 13 of Auburn’s 14 games last season. As a dual-threat quarterback, Marshall played a huge role in getting Auburn to last year’s national championship game. He rushed for 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns while passing for 1,976 yards and 14 touchdowns.
