With Texas upsetting Alabama, talk of change in the SEC has commenced.
ESPN host Matt Barrie and analyst Dan Mullen broke down how open the SEC really is after a wild Week 2 beyond the Bama upset. LSU blew out Grambling, Texas A&M fell to Miami, Florida bounced back to dominate McNeese, and Auburn barely won in California.
“It’s all wide open. Kentucky is in this thing. Florida is in this thing. Tennessee … I mean it’s wide open,” Barrie said on the “Matt Barrie Show” on Tuesday.
“And even Georgia, to a certain extent, hasn’t looked amazing,” Barrie added. “This is a really good start to the season for a couple of these teams that when you kind of look at the SEC big picture, this thing isn’t as foregone of a conclusion as we thought it was.”
Mullen, who once coached Florida and faced Georgia, sees the issues with the two-time defending national champions, but he noted the Bulldogs still have a “great defense” which only allowed 10 points in 2 games. However, Mullen also noted that the Bulldogs’ changes this year are significant.
“Georgia, they took the route they’re not being challenged the entire season out of conference,” Mullen added. “Their crossover games, Auburn’s down, Ole Miss could be a game for them, so they have the East.”
“Now the question is, who is that [second] team,” Mullen continued.
