Matt Barrie, Paul Finebaum consider whether Jimbo Fisher can deliver a big season

For Texas A&M, the expectations have been big ever since Jimbo Fisher arrived in College Station. In a shortened COVID season in 2020, the Aggies went 9-1, and finished No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings. They followed that up with an 8-4 season, and then the expectations got set even higher for 2022.
Texas A&M had the No. 1 recruiting class in 2022, highlighted by 8 5-star recruits with some incredible NIL deals. They entered last season No. 6 in the preseason rankings, but a shocking loss to Appalachian State started a major slide where the Aggies lost 6 of their first 9 games, en route to a 5-7 season.
These struggles have led people to question whether or not Jimbo Fisher is the right guy for Texas A&M.
ESPN’s Matt Barrie and Paul Finebaum discussed if this a make or break year for Fisher in College Station.
“If you would have told me 3 years ago that Fisher’s record would be what it is, and he still would be here, I would have been surprised,” Finebaum said. “A&M still believes they have the right coach. I have spent a lot of time around A&M people, and they’re not going to the grave with it, but they’re still pretty confident he is the right guy. It is the reason he is still in good standing, and unless they fall off the cliff this year, he will be back next season as well.
The Aggies open the season at home against New Mexico on Sept. 2, with an interesting out of conference road trip to Miami to take on the Hurricanes the following week.
