Matt Luke speaks out about decision to leave Georgia staff

Matt Luke recently made the unusual decision to step away from the Georgia staff, and spend more time with his family.
During an interview with Dawgs247, the former Georgia offensive line coach explained what led to the decision, and how he feels about it. Luke said coaching football is all he’s ever done since he graduated, so this is definitely unchartered territory.
“There’s a lot of fear, nervousness about it, because you’ve never done anything else,” Luke said. “But I didn’t want to have any regrets. My oldest son’s 14, my youngest one’s 10, and I didn’t want to have any regrets about seeing them grow up and being there. I’ve been blessed and fortunate in my career, and to be able to go out and win a national championship. I told Kirby (Smart) I’d help him win one, it just happened a little faster than I thought.”
Luke said it was a tough decision, but made harder by the way he was treated in the Athens area, and around Georgia.
“Everybody was first class from the time I got here,” Luke said. “It made it a very, very tough decision, and probably the toughest thing was walking in that offensive line room, talking to those players.”
Luke added that he and his family are staying in the Athens area, and they’re not planning to move.
