Matt Stinchcomb, an SEC Network analyst and former Georgia player, was on hand for Georgia’s Pro Day on Wednesday, and reviewed it on “The Paul Finebaum Show” while he also looked ahead to next season.
For starters, he said players like Travon Walker don’t come along all the time, as he can be a true defensive end, but also excel at all the linebacker drills. He then said the top 2 running backs from last year, James Cook and Zamir White, saw their contributions be overlooked or under appreciated.
Stinchcomb said this season will be a great opportunity to show how well Georgia’s recruited, but also developed high-end players to replace the future NFL players.
“Talking to those guys today, they all feel as though they’ve got plenty of talent left amongst their teammates, or soon-to-be-former teammates that will still be in Athens,” he said.
“The big takeaway is this defense that Georgia had, it was not only special statistically, but individually, when you look at the contributions from each one of those players, you put them on any other unit, and they were going to stand out, that’s just how good they really were, from a talent level standpoint,” he said.
Stinchcomb added that Georgia is capable of winning the national championship again, but it will be a “grow as you go” type year, as the team won’t be national championship-ready at the start of the season.
