Jim McElwain updated the local media Friday on Florida’s quarterback situation as the Gators prepare for their first scrimmage.
Luke Del Rio and Feleipe Franks are battling for the starting spot, along with Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire. Apparently, the other quarterbacks have had to step up their game with the arrival of Zaire.
Mac said Zaire’s presence seems to have elevated the level of play of Del Rio and Franks.

Friday night’s scrimmage should (hopefully) tell McElwain a little bit more about the quarterback race.
McElwain on how first scrimmage can help determine QB battle: “There should be some answers, I think, but I don’t know that.” #Gators

McElwain said that Feleipe Franks’ confidence is “very high” at the moment and also noted a pleasant surprise about all of the quarterbacks:
Mac acknowledges Franks’ confidence is “way higher than it was.” #Gators

Mac said the quarterbacks are a little ahead of where he thought they would be at this point.

All of the Gators’ signal callers will get a fair shot at the starting spot, McElwain said.
Mac said #Gators QBs Zaire, Franks, Del Rio will get chance for same rep count, depending on how to move the team.
