Mecole Hardman became one of the stars of the Super Bowl when he caught the game-winning touchdown pass in overtime. But it was Patrick Mahomes’ assertion after the game that Hardman didn’t know that the play clinched the Super Bowl.
During a post-game interview on NFL Network, Mahomes said that Hardman, “I threw a touchdown to this dude at the end of the game, and he looked at me and had no idea, I said, ‘Dude, we just won the Super Bowl,'” Mahomes said. “He didn’t even celebrate at the beginning. I’m like, ‘What are we doing?'”
Hardman shared his perspective: “When I see you running toward me, I’m like, ‘OK yeah, it’s time to celebrate now.'”
Hardman later wrote on social media that it was not true that he didn’t know the rules of the OT clincher.
“I knew the rule!!! False news,” he wrote.
In another interview, Hardman said, “I blacked out man,” Hardman said after making the catch. “I forgot we actually won the game.”
