South Carolina has reportedly fired head coach Will Muschamp after four and a half seasons at the helm.
BREAKING: #SouthCarolina has parted ways with Will Muschamp, per sources.
— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) November 16, 2020
Muschamp went 28-30 with the Gamecocks after taking over for Steve Spurrier in 2016.
The firing comes just one day after South Carolina lost to Ole Miss 59-42 in Oxford. This was the third straight game that South Carolina had allowed 48+ points.
That loss dropped the Gamecocks to 2-5 on the season. Mike Bobo is the interim head coach.
Here’s some of the reaction to this news that came in on Twitter Sunday night:
#Gamecocks let go of Will Muschamp seven games into his fifth season in Columbia. Team meeting taking place right now. Muschamp was informed about 45 minutes ago, I'm told. https://t.co/JLg5KkyNAm

Rooted for Will Muschamp at South Carolina because he was great to work with at Florida.
Handful of SEC defensive coordinator jobs I think he'll be in the mix for. https://t.co/oteoGHk6yr

Will Muschamp's buyout is just north of $13 million. It was cut slightly as part of the most recent amendment to his contract. There had been growing concern among school officials and supporters that continued fan apathy could cost South Carolina more.

Will Muschamp is going to end his career collecting $21 million in buyout money from SEC schools. Legendary.
