LSU announced that starting nose tackle Mekhi Wingo will wear the famed No. 18 jersey for the Tigers this season. The No. 18 jersey is annually awarded to the Tiger who best represents LSU on and off the field.

“Ever since I transferred here, I didn’t wanna come in and step on any toes,” Wingo said. “I just wanted to come here and put my head down and work to gain trust from my teammates and the coaching staff.”
Wingo transferred from Missouri prior to the 2022 season and record 46 tackles, 6 tackles for loss and 3 sacks last year.
In the past, players such as BJ Ojulari, K’Lavon Chaisson and Tre’Davious White have donned the number. The tradition began in 2001 when quarterback Matt Mauck wore the jersey from 2001-2003.
“Thank you to BJ for showing me how to properly wear this number,” Wingo said. “I’m going to go out and represent this number the right way.”
