The Miami Hurricanes were undoubtedly the most impressive team from the Week 1 college football slate, as they went into one of the most hostile environments in college football and came away with a 41-17 victory over the Florida Gators.
Florida hosted several high-profile recruits for the season opener, but they ended up with a front-row seat to see the cross-state rivals maul the Gators in every facet of the game. The Hurricanes players made a point to greet the recruits as they entered the tunnel after the blowout.

Other players made a point to walk to the section where the Gators recruits were sitting and introduce themselves.

Miami put up 529 yards of total offense and transfer QB Cam Ward looked like the Heisman frontrunner, finishing the game with 385 yards and 3 touchdowns.
But the Florida offense may have been worse than the Gators’ defense. Transfer QB Graham Mertz struggled from the opening whistle and the Gators finished the game with just 122 passing yards. They did find some success on the ground with 139 yards due to a few breakout running plays from Montrell Johnson.
Still, it’s hard to not think the recruits on hand considering Florida might be having second thoughts and now considering Miami as a potential option. The Hurricanes have struggled to get back to relevance since the days where they were known as the “U” but it looks like Mario Cristobal has something special for 2024 and beyond.
