Mike Elko evaluates frustrating loss to Kentucky: ‘There are no positives’

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko ran up and shook hands with a jubilant Will Stein.
“You guys kicked our ass,” Elko told Stein.
It may not have been the most elegant way to describe Texas A&M‘s frustrating afternoon at Kyle Field, but it was certainly accurate. Nothing went right for Texas A&M in the second half as Kentucky scored 21-straight en route to a 31-21 upset victory over Elko and his No. 9 Aggies.
After the game, Elko took some time to evaluate his team’s performance in front of reporters. Almost immediately after taking the podium, Elko said “There are no positives. There is not an ounce of a positive” from Texas A&M’s outing.

Elko echoed this sentiment once again a few minutes later, insisting he did not do a good enough job of preparing his team for Week 3’s contest.
“I did not do a good enough job of coaching this team and preparing this team,” Elko said, via TexAgs. “I don’t take any positives from this game. I don’t want to take away anything from Kentucky… Kentucky came in here and whooped us.”
This one was all about momentum. Perhaps the most important play from this game was Texas A&M’s decision to attempt a 4th and 2 from the Aggies 32-yard line. Marcel Reed’s intended for Carsyn Baker fell just short, resulting in a turnover-on-downs and a Kentucky touchdown just moments later.
Here’s the message Elko had for his team postgame:
“Man up,” Elko said. “You figure out what you are about during adversity. Everybody will quit on us. That’s how this thing works. It’s never been about everybody. It’s about people inside that locker room.”
